Job Responsibilities and Performance Standards:


1 Makes undercover drug purchases on a statewide basis as required. (Performed by all incumbents)
   ** Works undercover narcotics investigations on a statewide basis.
   ** Infiltrates the local drug culture and makes the purchases of drugs.
   ** Is available for work both day and night as required.

2 Testifies in court. (Performed by all incumbents)
   ** Presents a professional image in court.
   ** Coordinates the prosecution of cases with the District Attorney
   ** Presents accurate testimony in a clear and distinct manner.
   ** Thoroughly prepares and presents evidence of case during testimony.

3 Prepares complete and accurate case reports. (Performed by all incumbents)
   ** Organizes case report according to applicable guidelines.
   ** Prepares and presents complete case reports for file review.
   ** Ensures that all cases are disseminated to the proper authority in a timely manner as directed.

4 Interviews informants, witnesses, and defendants according to established guidelines. (Performed by all incumbents)
   ** Properly documents interviews according to applicable guidelines.
   ** Demonstrates skill in interviewing informants, witnesses, and defendants from diverse backqrounds, including educational level and race.
   ** Advises all defendants of their rights, and completes the necessary documentation.
   ** Completes Arrest Record on all defendants in a complete and timely manner.

5 Handles evidence according to established guidelines and procedures. (Performed by all incumbents)
   ** Demonstrates knowledge of the capabilities of the Division of Forensic Sciences.
   ** Demonstrates knowledge and skill in proper handling procedures for various types of evidence.
   ** Submits evidence to Division of Forensic Sciences in a timely manner.

6 Makes arrests. (Performed by all incumbents)
   ** Makes every reasonable effort to identify prospective defendants and ascertain their proper address.
   ** Behaves in a professional manner when arresting defendants.
   ** Assists other officers as required in all phases of the arrest/booking procedure.
   ** Properly prepares search warrants and arrest warrants based on established guidelines and policies.

7 Conducts sophisticated investigations and surveillance. (Performed by all incumbents)
   ** Demonstrates current knowledge and skill in proper use and maintenance of the Bureau's surveillance equipment, including body bugs and night scopes.
   ** Plans backup visual signals when using body bugs.
   ** Ensures that all buys/busts are planned thoroughly, and each participant knows his/her responsibilities.
   ** Ensures that all buys/busts and raids are conducted in accordance with prescribed Bureau policies and procedures.


Entry Qualifications:


Completion of an undergraduate degree at a four year college or university. Necessary legal requirement: incumbents in this job are by law considered to be peace officers. Therefore, applicants must meet the standards prescribed by the Georgia Peace Officer Standards And Training council (POST).
